Australian rules football: 2010 Gippsland Football League round 1 – Wonthaggi v Leongatha

Saturday, April 3, 2010

Wonthaggi, Victoria — Wonthaggi defeated Leongatha at home in the opening game of the 2010 Gippsland Football League (officially the Gippsland League, GL) season this past Saturday. The match, unofficially dubbed “the South Gippsland derby”, was played a week prior to the other opening round matches.

The three remaining matches of round one are scheduled to be played next Saturday (April 10). Morwell will host Warragul in Morwell, Drouin will play Maffra in Drouin and Moe will host Traralgon at Yallourn North with Sale having the bye.

The Gippsland Football League is considered one of the “major leagues” controlled by the Victorian Country Football League, the governing body of Australian rules football in regional Victoria, Australia.

At the league’s annual general meeting in December, it changed it’s name from the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League. At the same meeting, Wonthaggi joined the GL after dominating the Alberton Football League during the past decade. The Power made five concecutive Alberton Grand Finals winning three, losing only to Yarram (2007) and Stony Creek (2009).

Wonthaggi Power Football Club is a result of a merger between Wonthaggi Blues, a former Gippsland FL team, and Wonthaggi Rovers, an Alberton FL team. In February, the Gippsland Football League announced that Wonthaggi would be changing their uniforms, because their original one was similar to that of Warragul.

Leongatha finished the 2009 season losing the minor semi final against enventual grand final winners Maffra. Leongatha defeated Drouin in the last Elimination Final under the West Gippsland Latrobe Football League banner.

Scores below are quoted as goals-behinds (total). Goals are worth six points, behinds one.

March 2010
Wonthaggi Power 9-9 63
Leongatha Parrots 8-14 62
Wonthaggi Recreation ReserveWonthaggi, VictoriaAustralia
Half TimeWonthaggi 6-6 (42)Leongatha 1-8 (14)
Full TimeWonthaggi 9-9 (63)Leongatha 8-14 (62)

Wonthggi kicked off their first game in the major league with a opening quarter lead of four and a half goals over rivals Leongatha. The Power’s move from the Alberton League looked to be justified as they went in to cruise mode.

Leongatha slowly clawed back the deficit over the next three quarters but the first quarter result and inaccurate kicking caused them to fall short by one point.

Lewis Hamilton wins 2007 Japanese Grand Prix

Sunday, September 30, 2007

Vodafone McLaren Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton starting from pole wins the FIA Formula-1 2007 Japanese Grand Prix at the Fuji Speedway, Oyama, Japan. It was the first race on this circuit since 1977, when James Hunt won the race for McLarenFord.

A rainy and foggy weekend at Fuji appeared to be very hard for all drivers as the race ran longer then expected and the drivers have to concentrate more due to severe weather conditions. The race started behind the safety car which stayed on a track for an unusually long time, about 40 minutes.

Both Ferrari drivers, who managed to get the second row on the starting grid in the Saturday qualifying session were out of the game on the first laps due to their tyre selection mistake – drivers were forced to change to extreme wet tyres after a few driving errors. When the pace car finally turned off the lights giving the drivers a clear road Hamilton quickly got away from his teammate, Fernando Alonso, who had more fuel on board and thus had a heavier car. Alonso would be eliminated after 41 laps in a driving accident.

Heikki Kovalainen driving for Renault finally leads to a first podium finish for the team in this season, the Finn managed to get second place. On the final laps of the race he masterly defended his position from Kimi Räikkönen, who returned to the battle for podium after the Ferrari start failure.

Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber both nearly finished on the podium, but a collision between their Toro Rosso and Red Bull sponsored vehicles took them out of the race.

Renault-engined cars did well in the race with David Coulthard and Giancarlo Fisichella finishing in 4th and 5th places.

Robert Kubica got a drive through the pit-lane penalty after some dangerous driving and a collision with Hamilton, causing the Polish driver to be rolled back to 7th place. Felipe Massa took 6th place for Ferrari in his hard battle with Kubica in the sprint to the finish line.

Vitantonio Liuzzi rounded out the top eight for Toro Rosso.

Adrian Sutil did his best for Spyker, finishing ahead of both Hondas. It was confirmed that Spyker will change owners next season becoming the first Indian national Formula One team in history.

In the Drivers’ Championship Hamilton, with 107 points, has increased his lead over teammate Alonso to 12 points. Kimi narrowed the gap to the McLaren drivers, now only five points behind Alonso.

Tool Management Software Helps Maintain Your Inventory And Budget

By A.Noton

Operating a construction site some come all manner of different responsibilities. Since the various responsibilities can be so all-encompassing, the management of a construction business must be very well organized and on top of all on-site operations. This is not an easy task as the monumental nature of a construction site job makes effective management difficult and involved. Management of the site becomes even more difficult if you are employing old and outdated methods for record keeping. For those who require better construction site organizational support, tool management software could prove to be a wise acquisition.

There really are no little tasks when it comes to managing construction or repair sites and keeping accurate track of your tools and tool inventory should never be overlooked. This is not an easy task with a small construction site much less a sprawling and expansive one. Trying to maintain the inventory of the tools needed at the site with nothing more than a pen and ledger just would be too cumbersome. Worse yet, such a method is too prone to potential human error. Again, this is why any well run construction business will use a quality software program to log all tool use.

Tool management software handles a variety of tasks. First, it will be used to maintain an accurate inventory of all tools in storage. This allows you to effectively maintain a working knowledge of which tools are not in use and where they are stored. Having such an effective inventory system allows you to issue the tools to the construction site employees in an orderly manner since you will never have to waste time searching for the required tools. You will also be able to quickly ascertain when a tool has been lost or damaged which allows you to immediate take the appropriate steps to replace the item. Nothing can be more problematic than not having the sufficient tools for a job and not knowing they are unavailable until the last minute. Proper tool tracking software ensures a problem of this nature does not arise.

The tool management software will also allow you to track which tools were issued to specific employee. The issuance of the tools will be logged and cross-referenced with an employee database. Of course, when the employee returns the tools, this information will also be recorded.

The location = job site or elsewhere — in which the tool is being utilized will also be accurately logged. Since you will always know where the tool is located and who the tool has been issued to, the potential for losing or misplacing the tool is greatly diminished.

Are a great many steps required to operate the tool software? Actually, many of these software programs are integrated with a barcode system. When the barcode is scanned, it will immediately send data to the management program. This certainly makes the process of logging the tool use incredibly easy and user-friendly.

Advanced tool management software programs can also be integrated into your accounting system. This allows you to always stay on top of your costs and stay on top of your budget. Considering all the tremendous benefits you gain from installing such software, no construction business should be without one.

2008 Taipei International Book Exhibition: Varied fiction books showed different authoring style

Wednesday, February 20, 2008

At the 2008 Taipei International Book Exhibition, comic books and fiction books presented different authoring styles in formatting, story construction, and background settings. Examples of these were highlighted at two seminars entitled “On Trends in Creative Chinese Literature” and “From ‘Shao Nu Xiao Yu‘ (????, meaning in English as “A Young Girl – Little Fish”) to ‘The Banquet Bug‘ (???)”, as well as through recent fiction released by several publishers in Taiwan.

In the seminar about ‘The Banquet Bug’, a book, which has drawn by international media attention from The Times, Daily Mail, and TIME Magazine, was recently translated into the Chinese language by John Chiang-sheng Kuo (???). Taiwanese literature commentator Nan Fang Shou (???, pen-name by Xin-ching Wang, ???) said the following at the seminar:

Even though this novel [The Banquet Bug] focused on phenomena of “cheating”, it evidently showed the presence of society in several places or incidents.

At the other seminar, “On Trends in Creative Chinese Literature”, which focused on wuxia novels, famous Taiwanese novelist Da-chuen Chang (???) commented with some specialists on wuxia novels and said:

The wuxia novel in the Chinese-language world is very valuable, especially in some elements, story construction, history background, gangsters related to Chinese martial-arts, because several elements above may not be seen in Western (European and American) novels. I think the traditions in the Chinese-language world can still keep in path even though Jin Yong‘s novels were famous in the past.

In fact, the novel and fiction authoring in Taiwan has generally been steady and varied with such examples and the maturation of independent authoring.

Sarkozy in UK to mark historic de Gaulle war broadcast

Sunday, June 20, 2010

But has the last word been said? Must hope disappear? Is defeat final? No!Charles de Gaulle broadcast

Nicolas Sarkozy visited the UK today to celebrate the 70th anniversary since Charles de Gaulle made his war broadcast. The French president and the Prince of Wales laid wreaths at the statue of Charles de Gaulle in London.

Earlier, Mr Sarkozy and his wife Carla Bruni visited the BBC radio studio where the famous broadcast was made on BBC France. The broadcast at the time was said to have been listened to by a very small number of listeners. Carla Bruni and Nicolas Sarkozy unveiled a plaque and viewed a tapestry given to the BBC by France as a note of gratitude after World War II.

Nicolas Sarkozy and British PM David Cameron met with 200 veterans during a ceremony at the Royal Hospital Chelsea. Nicolas Sarkozy awarded the Légion d’honneur to six World War II veterans, three of whom were British.

In a short speech, Mr Cameron said the anniversary was a “reminder that Britain and France are not just neighbours in the geographical sense but also in the emotional sense.” Mr Cameron held an hour of talks with the French president at Downing Street primarily focusing on economics, Afghanistan, and other foreign policy matters. The visit is the first by a French president to mark Gen de Gaulle’s broadcast on June 18, 1940. In the stirring radio appeal, Gen de Gaulle declared himself leader of the “Free French”, spawning the French Resistance, which went on to play a crucial role in defeating the Germans.

Mr Sarkozy’s last official visit to the UK was in March 2008, when he was also accompanied by his wife.

Hurricane-force winds kill 15 people as storm hits Europe

Sunday, January 25, 2009

As a storm swept across parts of France and Spain on Saturday and Sunday, it left 15 people dead. Its winds were recorded up to 190km/h (118 mph), which are hurricane-force winds.

The storm made landfall near to Bordeaux, France at 5:00 am Central European Time on Saturday the 24th January. It traveled south-eastwards towards the south-east coast of France throughout Saturday morning, finally reaching there at 1:00 pm. It is expected to head north-eastwards over Italy and the Adriatic Sea, but without causing damage. Low pressure systems are fairly common in Europe at this time of year. Some reports have called it the storm of the decade; BBC meteorologist Alex Deakin said “Saturday’s storm is being described as the most damaging since that of December 1999 which killed 88 people.”

Four children aged between 9 and 12 died at a sports hall in Sant Boi de Llobregat, near Barcelona. The children intended on playing baseball, but sought shelter inside a covered area made of concrete with a corrugated iron roof. The structure collapsed, as a result of the wind. Local people and fire-fighters were at the scene in aiding children to escape the rubble. Three children died at the scene, a fourth died in hospital and 16 have been treated for injuries.

Other fatalities include a woman, who died after a wall collapsed and a man struck by a falling tree in the Barcelona area. In Landes, south-west France, a falling tree struck a driver; a 78-year-old man was hit by debris and another man, aged 75, was crushed by a tree. A wall crushed a man in Aigues de Busot in the south-east of Spain. A policeman was struck by a falling tree as he directed traffic in Burela and a sailor from a cargo ship died when the vessel got into trouble off the coast of Galicia. In Burgos, Spain, a woman was crushed by a door.

Approximately 1.7 million homes in France and tens of thousands of homes in Spain experienced power cuts. A woman, aged 73, died in France after a power-outage stopped her breathing machine. Road and rail links were blocked and airports closed. Airports in Bordeaux, Biarritz, Pau and Toulouse were shut, as well as train services, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded overnight.

Michèle Alliot-Marie, the French interior minister, stated that in addition to the 300 civil security agents located in the Landes region of France, another 715 agents would be deployed. She also expressed her intent to fly there today, after the high winds have decreased. French President Nicolas Sarkozy told reporters he would travel to the affected area tomorrow. In Bordeaux’s Gironde region, 19 residents of a retirement home were evacuated by rescuers following its rooftop being blown away. Authorities have also evacuated campers from the pine forests in Landes.

Thousands were evacuated from nearby housing estates in La Nucía, north of Benidorm in Alicante, as the Spanish Army helped to fight a forest fire, which was started by a felled electricity pylon. There were also forest fires in the region of Catalonia, while Spain put emergency services on high alert. Waves over 20 metres high were registered off the northern coast of Spain and dolphins were stranded on beaches in the region as a result of high winds.

Selling Tips For Properties With A Bad View

Submitted by: Randy Walker

Sliding glass doors may seem like an obstacle when it comes to selling those special properties. You know the ones: they have sliders that look directly into a neighboring unit, face a parking lot, common area or worse.

Show the property with the blinds closed and the room will seem dark, leave the blinds open and you can almost feel the excitement leave the buyers faces as they look through that glass wall. Being an enterprising agent, you try angling the blinds to give the room as much light as possible while minimizing the immediate impact of the view and hope for the best. You know eventually they all sell, but often with a selling price thousands of dollars less than the same unit with a better view.

A $100 alternative, to a reduced selling price, is decorating those glass doors with an adhesive-free etched glass film called Wallpaper For Windows. ( www.wallpaperforwindows.com ) . This decorative window film will turn the negative into a positive by transforming that clear glass wall into expensive-looking custom glass doors that conceal the undesirable view. With open blinds the room is energized with natural light from beautiful etched glass doors and the importance of the view is minimized.

Buyers should be told that the doors are decorated and the Wallpaper For Windows film can be left on or removed. There is an advantage to decorating the glass doors instead of leaving them plain: the room is always presented with the best lighting and the view is always obscured. Once buyers know there is a solution to the undesirable view, the issue will be minimized. (The film is adhesive-free and can be removed in seconds; there are no removal issues.)

The important thing to remember is that it must be an adhesive-free static-cling film like Wallpaper For Windows! . The static cling film installation is easy and has beautiful results. Adhesive-backed films are difficult to remove and not recommended for this situation. (Also beware of window films that have to be seamed together to cover a piece of glass. When the windows are washed, the seams catch some of the dirt, after a few washings the seams start becoming black lines instead of invisible.)

For the seller, Wallpaper For Windows is an inexpensive solution to maintain the desired selling price. For the realtor, with the view replaced by decorative glass doors, the unit will sell faster and commissions will not be reduced.

Cheap Holidays How Do I Get The Most For My Money?

Submitted by: Julie Spooner

Many travel websites offer ‘cheap holidays’- but many potential holiday-makers eventually get put off by hidden chages and confusing pricing structures. Here we will tell you the easiest ways to save so you really feel like you got a good deal.

Pay in instalments.

Search for ‘holiday deposit’ online and you will find many sites offering deposits for as low as 50 GBP. There can also be hefty discounts on holidays booked in advance, and some agents offer a discount as well as a deposit scheme, so you can save money and pay in installments!

Book in advance.

Despite the claims from websites offering last minute discounts there can be some real bargains found far in advance. About 6 months in advance is a good time to search for holidays as agents will be eager to fill slots for the next season.

Avoid the school holidays.

This may not be an option if you have children, but if you don’t have kids then you will find prices shoot up during the school holidays.

Fly on Inconvenient Days.

Christmas day can be one of the cheapest flight days of the year, along with New Year’s Eve. So if you don’t mind missing the festivities there are great deals to be found. Mid-week is also a good time to fly as there can quite often be less demand.

Don’t Stay in a Hotel.

Self-catering apartments can be found at knock-down prices out of season and have the added advantage of saving you money on food.

A ‘pension’ is another word for a boarding house on the continent and in some parts of South America and the rooms are often very comfortable – just a little less expensive-looking.

Hostels are great for young travellers, but may become tedious for those looking for a quiet holiday.

Cook for Yourself.

If you find yourself a self-catering apartment or hostel (most have kitchens) you can save a fortune on food. Eating out is one of the pleasures of going abroad, but equally you can make delicious lunches and breakfasts using local fresh ingredients and save your money for other things. Take a cookbook from the country you are holidaying in and experiment with new flavours.

Go All-inclusive.

Although these holidays can seem expensive they can save you a lot of money on flights, food and drinks. Look for package deals in countries which have a currency that is weak against the pound. Resorts are great for children – and even if you prefer a more ‘authentic’ holiday you may find it is cheaper to stay in the resort and go on day trips.

Avoid Touristy Areas

Shopping and eating areas that cater to tourists are often far more expensive, and, sometimes, worse quality, than eateries and shops that are for locals. If you become friendly with the locals then ask for their recommendations- you can find hidden gems this way that you would never have found otherwise!

Shop Around

Shopping for holidays online can make your head spin sometimes. Sign-up to email newsletters from a number of holiday agents (remember that airlines sometimes offer holidays too) and you will sometimes be sent exclusive special offers.

We wish you a thrifty and enjoyable holiday!
