When You File Bankruptcy, Denver Residents Should Think Twice About Going It Alone

Submitted by: Jonathon Blocker

If you are an individual, it is legal for you to file bankruptcy. Denver residents do this all the time. However, it is not always in your best interests to do so. It makes sense, at this important time, to seek the help of Denver bankruptcy attorneys. A bankruptcy lawyer in Denver will work on your behalf to help you get the financial relief you are entitled to under the law.

If you are a lawyer yourself, then you may have the knowledge needed for the process to file bankruptcy. Denver residents who are not lawyers, however, leave themselves open to financial risk if they attempt to wade their way through the legal maze that is contemporary bankruptcy proceedings. The process is quite complicated, and there are several necessary forms to fill out and required meetings to attend. You would likely not know where to begin the process of filing, or even which chapter would be best for you, but a Denver bankruptcy lawyer is well-versed in all of the myriad aspects of bankruptcy law and can help you make you way through it successfully.

According to bankruptcy attorneys, Denver residents can expect to face several deadlines in the procedure to file bankruptcy. Denver residents will first meet with their Denver bankruptcy attorneys to learn more, and will then take their credit counseling class. If you are filing jointly with your spouse, then both of you must attend, or you may attend as an individual if you are filing individually. After completion of the course, you will receive a certificate, which you will need as part of the paperwork required to file.

Your Denver bankruptcy lawyer will next ask you to gather together some needed information. This will include the last two years of your tax filings, your bills, driver’s license and social security card. With this information, your Denver bankruptcy attorneys will help you fill out all of the paperwork that you will need to petition the court for the bankruptcy.

You have a couple of options for filing with the help of bankruptcy attorneys. Denver residents may file the forms with the court, or your Denver bankruptcy lawyer can do it for you online.

Next is to prepare for your meeting of creditors, for which you will want to prepare with your bankruptcy attorneys. Denver lawyers will join you at the courthouse for this meeting. The trustee at this meeting may ask for information, and this can be handled by bankruptcy attorneys. Denver residents then attend the next credit counseling class and earn the certificate, which goes to your lawyer. At this point, your creditors either will or will not object to your discharge, and you either head back to court or you get the discharge, or you begin making agreed upon monthly payments and receive a discharge notice at the end of your payment plan.

Your lawyer will, in short, make filing a lot easier for you with his or her help.

Media round-up: April Fools’ Day 2008

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Many media outlets traditionally deliberately spread hoaxes on April Fools’ Day, including notable quality sources such as National Geographic and Science.

The popular British tabloid The Sun wrote that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to undergo stretch surgery to make him taller than his wife, Italian artist and model Carla Bruni. The report claimed the 5 foot 5 inch leader would be made 5 inches taller in one year using a method by Israeli professor Ura Schmuck. The Sun noted that during his visit to Britain last week, Sarkozy had high-heel shoes while his wife wore a pair of flat pumps.

The Guardian on the other hand ran an article that suggested that Carla would head an initiative by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to bring more glamour, good taste and sophistication to the U.K. general population. This would involve collaboration with Marks & Spencer for high-street fashion and Jamie Oliver for meals and wine.

BBC News had real-looking footage of flying penguins fronted by documentary host Terry Jones, which were actually an advertisement for its new iPlayer.

Researchers create rat kidneys in a laboratory

Monday, April 15, 2013

Researchers at the Massachusetts General Hospital have created laboratory-grown rat kidneys that function when transplanted into rats according to a study published online yesterday in the medical journal Nature Medicine.

The kidneys were capable of urine production and excretion without blood clots in both the laboratory and inside living rats. The researchers were able to create the functional kidneys by using a donor kidney and using a detergent to remove the rats’ kidney cells, then used new cells to cause the kidney to grow around the remaining “scaffolding,” the natural protein-based structure of the kidney that remained after washing the kidney.

These kidneys would also be of the patient’s tissue avoiding issues of organ rejection and would increase the pool of kidneys available for human transplant.

The researchers incubated the kidneys in a specialized oven for 12 days to mimic the insides of a rat. The researchers reported that these kidneys produced urine at 23% of the normal levels of properly working kidneys.

The lead researcher of the study published in Nature Medicine, Dr. Harald C. Ott, says this partial functionality is enough, saying, “If you’re on haemodialysis then kidney function of 10% to 15% would already make you independent of hemodialysis. It’s not that we have to go all the way.”

The techniques developed by Ott and the team of researchers still have to be further researched before it can be applied for use in humans. When it comes time for use in humans, Ott says that pigs’ kidneys would be used as the templates for making human-usable kidneys.

Ott said, “You’d take a kidney matrix off the shelf. Then in an ideal world, you’d take cells from that patient and create a kidney on demand.”

Roughly 100,000 patients in the United States need an immediate kidney transplant, with 500,000 more on dialysis.

Ourzazate: The Gateway To The Sahara

By Jane Wilkinson

Whilst many people have heard of the bustling medinas of Marrakech and even the seaside resort of Essaouira, the town of Ourzazate remains an insider’s secret. However, if you are looking to experience the real side to the country whilst on your Moroccan holiday then look no further to the town of Ourzazate; the gateway to your Saharan adventure.

The name Ourzazate sounds more like a semi-precious gemstone than a garrison town, but in the 1920’s this town was an important military base for the French Foreign Legion. Nowadays the stunning scenery of the looming Atlas Mountains coupled with the dramatic desert landscapes makes it a popular destination for filmmakers and actors. The Atlas Studios are located in this town and whilst on your Moroccan holiday it is possible to take a tour of these elusive studios and see the sets used in ‘Kingdom of Heaven’, ‘Alexander’ and ‘Gladiator’ to name but a few.

Obviously with the destination attracting the glitterati of Hollywood, it needs to have the perfect luxury hotel in Morocco in which they can stay and La Berbere Palace is definitely the answer. Russell Crowe and Brad Pitt have both stayed at this hotel whilst filming and it’s definitely the place to go for a bout of celebrity spotting whilst on your Moroccan holiday. The hotel also exhibits many of the famous props and outfits used during filming, including some of the costumes worn by Elizabeth Taylor during ‘Cleopatra’.

However the town of Ourzazate is more than just a glorified film studio. It is also the gateway to the Sahara desert and therefore visited by many people as the first stop on their luxury holiday in Morocco’s Sahara. The area is known for its fragrant almond trees which flower during the spring months of February to March and heading to the Valley of the Almond Trees by 4×4 is a must during these decadent months.

Ourzazate is also known for its many Kasbahs, which has earned it its nickname ‘The Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs’. Of all these Kasbahs, the Ait Benhaddou is a definite must see whilst on your Moroccan holiday. The UNESCO World Heritage Site is the best preserved in the region and has been used in many films including ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ and ‘Jesus of Nazareth’. The best and most authentic way to reach the top of Ait Benhaddou is by camel across the Oued Ounila River. A Kasbah consists of many individual dwellings and for a small charge the friendly locals will take you into their homes and offer you copious amounts of mint tea, whilst showing you how they live.

From the top of Ait Benhaddou you can expect to take in breathtaking views of the local scenery including the snow-capped Atlas Mountains and the old arena which was used during the filming of ‘Gladiator’.

Whilst Ait Benhaddou may be breathtaking, make sure that you also visit Kasbah Taourirt whilst on your luxury holiday in Morocco. The Kasbah is the largest in the region and a former El Glaoui Palace. During the 1930s the El Glaoui clan controlled one of the major caravan routes to West Africa and were given power by the French in exchange for keeping the Southern tribes subdued.

Kasbah Taourirt is located at a strategic point on the caravan route and the Kasbah has close to 300 rooms with 20 individual riads located inside. Visitors can take a tour and see the former kitchens and harem area whilst the main courtyard offers stunning scenes of the High Atlas.

Canberrans flood Cotter Dam on open day

Australian Capital Territory — Thousands of Canberrans took a look at the new Cotter Dam on the Cotter River on open day on Sunday. The public was given limited access to the still-active construction site. Buses took viewers from the car park below to top of the dam wall. They ran every 15 minutes from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm.

The dam is to supply fresh water to the city of Canberra. This is to provide water security for the city as droughts become more frequent due to global warming.

It is a gravity dam, which holds back the waters through sheer mass. It is about 80 metres (about 260 feet) high. The dam is made from roller-compacted concrete. The concrete was laid dry and compacted with rollers. The concrete was made on site. Only the final touches use conventional concrete. In addition to the main dam, there are two saddle dams filling depressions in the landscape so flood waters flow over the spillway and not out the sides of the lake.

The dam on the Cotter River has been under construction for four years. Concrete pouring is expected to take another two weeks. The site is then to be rehabilitated. Thousands of seeds were collected during constructions. These are to be replanted to replace the native flora. Work is expected to be complete by September.

The dam replaces an old dam, first built in 1911 but subsequently expanded several times. Now heritage listed, it has been submerged by the waters of the new dam. Some materials were salvaged from the old dam to build the new, and some have been put on display.

The river is named after Garrett Cotter, an Irish-born convict who was transported to Australia and lived in the area in the 1830s and 1840s.

London Police seize massive gun cache

Wednesday, September 13, 2006

In raids that were part of Operation Mokpo, police seized a massive weapons haul from a suburban house.

Officers from Britain’s Metropolitan Police arrested a 55-year-old man after two houses and a business were raided in Dartford, South East of London.

The firearms include hundreds of shotguns, semiautomatic guns and automatic weapons.

Operation Trident officers and Polsa (Police Search Advisor) search teams carried out three search operations early morning though majority of weapon was found in a three bed room house.

“This is the biggest firearms haul we have ever had,” Det. Chief Superintendent Kevin Davis said. “Guns are mounted on every available wall space in the property and live ammunition was found lying on the floor.”

A simultaneous operation is underway in New Jersey, USA.

This was the biggest success for Operation Mokpo, launched 18 months ago after a series of shooting by rival gangs in North London.

An account of the Esperanza Fire from an animal rescuer

Saturday, December 2, 2006

As families fled their homes in the early morning hours on Thursday October 26, there was no warning. The Esperanza Fire southeast of Los Angeles and West of Palm Springs, California, had ballooned under the influence of Santa Ana winds to more than 19,000 acres as of the morning of October 27. No time to get the animals, no time for crates or even a leash. Sadly, owners left behind not only their horses, lamas, donkeys, chickens, rabbits, but also their dogs and cats.

Many of the families who did manage to evacuate their pets found themselves in the parking lot at the Fellowship in the Pass Church Red Cross Shelter where a MuttShack Animal Rescue team caught up with them.

Pam Anderson, Director of the emergency Red Cross shelter said that many people with animals had come and left.

The air was thick with smoke, and ash was raining down on the parking lot where dog owners, not able to take their dogs into the shelter were camping out in pup tents andin their cars.

Those who could afford it checked themselves into pet friendly hotels in nearby towns.

Some were prepared. Jane Garner, a small dog breeder was able to get all her animals out, and had set up her puppy runs alongside her RV in the parking lot. Others were not doing too well, having left home without as much as a leash.

The same scenario played out at the Red Cross shelter at Hemet High School. Animals were being boarded in vans, trailers and cars and small travel crates.

When MuttShack Animal Rescue arrived, a small fracas had sent several dogs off in different directions, running out of the school parking lot down busy streets necessitating an instant rescue response.

The Incident Command for the Esperanza Animals, Ramona Humane Society in San Jacinto welcomed MuttShack‘s offer to help at the shelters.

Ramona Humane Society had recently published a notice in their Newsletter about the newly passed “PETS Act”and warned owners not wait until a major disaster such as an earthquake or fireto prepare. “Be proactive to ensure that your pet will be taken care of.”

MuttShack and PetSmart Charities set up ad hoc facilities for the animals at both shelters.

The Red Cross shelter, run by Madison Burtchaell of the Orange County Red Cross was very accommodating about allowing a small emergency pet shelter adjacent to the School.

Barbara A. Fought of PetSmart Charities, an organization that works with animal welfare organizations and provide assistance in disasters, provided crates and emergency supplies.

MuttShack and Red Cross volunteers, Martin St. John, Tom Hamilton, and Steve Meissner helped assemble the crates to secure a safe environment for evacuated pets.

It was a great relief for evacuees who had camped out in the parking lot to finally leave their vehicles and relax at the shelter, setting up their cots to grab some sorely needed rest.

Firefighters and residents reported loss of wildlife and animals. The Esperanza fire burned 34 homes, consumed 40,000 acres and cost five Firefighters their lives before it was contained four days later on October 30. Firefighting operations cost nearly $10 million.

MuttShack Animal Rescue is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization active in disasters and dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and care of lost or discarded dogs, cats and other animals.

Steps On How To Motivate Music Students

Submitted by: Greish Scott

Not all beginning music students have the same level of motivation toward learning the curriculum. People change, and so their enthusiasm can diminish through time.

A lot of students are going on and off their music lessons, for the purpose of learning their favorite instrument, but there are only few who sincerely pursue their mastery of music in search of what they called: self-fulfillment.

Some students, I know, are doing great on their first few lessons, but they unexpectedly lose the desire to practice once dismantled by rough changes in their personal perspectives and goals. Nevertheless, this is also true even among experienced singers; singers would feel comfortable singing along the radio than the usual and boring voice drills.

Encouraging your students to become motivated can be the most challenging job of a music teacher. This may, of course, idealistic, but if you keep your patience and your dedication in helping your students, you can do better. Heed from these steps on how you can motivate your students in learning music, and some classroom motivation techniques.

More than a tracking device

Most teachers require their students to monitor and keep a record of their practice time. Sometimes, a technique like this may look odd, because it is embarrassing for a student to tell a teacher, for instance, that he or she spent lesser time than what had been expected. So let your student keep his or her own record, regardless if they re honest or not, and let them judge what areas or lessons they have missed. This will also show trust and appreciation to your students.

Parents can cooperate too. It would be better if parents make the lessons exciting by making charts and stickers for each ten-minute practice. Children will love this idea, but adults would find it childish and they may appreciate more a gadget such as a digital timer or a unique notebook for time keeping.

Punishment won t work

Some teachers see punishment as an effective method of motivation; but, unfortunately, this is an old prophecy. Yelling or punishing students to keep their ears keen to the subject matter won t work, and, worse, it will create gap between the teacher and the student.

Keeping your students constrained to punishment makes it even harder for them to concentrate on the lessons and excel in their practice. Patience is a virtue. This rings true especially if you are teaching children and rowdy adults. No matter how stubborn or naughty the students are, you should keep your patience to help them become more motivated and to make yourself respectful in the eyes of the students and their parents as well.

Pay Attention to their needs

Teaching is always a humble job. As a teacher, you disassociate yourself, your needs, and your level to connect with your students. A good teacher sacrifices herself or himself for the betterment of the students.

What makes an efficient teacher is not measured on your professional level, but on how you relate well with your students. You have to pay attention to your student s needs, and, aside from music, know what are their likes or dislikes to help you understand your students. If your student loses confidence or enthusiasm, try to talk and help him or her from dealing these obstacles.

Teräsbetoni frontman J. Ahola on representing Finland at Eurovision 2008 & more

Sunday, April 13, 2008

This article is a featured article. It is considered one of the best works of the Wikinews community. See Wikinews:Featured articles for more information.

Teräsbetoni means “steel-reinforced concrete”, and is also the name of a Finnish heavy metal band formed in 2002. Their music, which centres on an honourable warrior lifestyle or on metal itself, quickly became popular in 2003 on the Internet, resulting in a petition by fans being sent to several record labels demanding a recording deal. In late 2004 the band signed to Warner Music Finland, and the following year debut single Taivas lyö tulta rose to number one in the Finnish charts, and debut album Metallitotuus hit number two and went platinum, and has now sold about 47,000 copies.

The band, who sing exclusively in Finnish, have just released their third album, Myrskyntuoja. The lead single on this album is Missä miehet ratsastaa, which Teräsbetoni decided to enter in the Finnish selections for the 2008 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, where it was selected to go on to the semi-final in Belgrade, Serbia as Finland’s representative this year. Although Finland has seen limited success in the contest, their only victory was with a comparable group. In 2006 hard rock band Lordi – whose monster costumes and pyrotechnic displays are famed – achieved a record 292 points in the final with Hard Rock Hallelujah.

Teräsbetoni’s frontman, vocalist and bass guitarist Jarkko Ahola’s fame extends beyond the band he heads. He also features in Finnish symphonic power metal cover supergroup Northern Kings, alongside Marco Hietala of Nightwish and Tarot, Tony Kakko of Sonata Arctica and Juha-Pekka Leppäluoto of Charon.

Wikinews was able to conduct an exclusive interview with Jarkko Ahola to discuss these various achievements. This interview is now published below for the first time.
