What is Obesity? Is there a solution for Obesity? Obesity is having accumulation of excess fat in ones body. Excess weight gain could be for various reasons like health problems, medications, bone weight and others. A person is said to be obese only when they are overweight due to excess fat accumulation. Caused by various reasons, this is a problem that has to be tackled at the earliest or we may start losing control over it. The best remedy, if it is tackled at the earliest, would be to maintain a well balanced diet along with plenty of physical exercise. Adapting a healthy life style is an ideal solution to get out of the clamps of obesity. The advancement in medical science has given us some solution to obesity which cannot be controlled by mere diet and physical exercises. In such conditions a person could be susceptible to illnesses like hypertension, diabetes, cardiac problems. To avoid these problems the excess weight gain has to be stopped surgically called Obesity Surgery or Bariatric Surgery. These proven methodshelp greatly in controlling one\’s weight. This surgery reduces the size of the stomach through different forms of surgery, which reduces the food intake avoiding the extra weight that causes obesity. Bariatric Surgery is performed on people who are obese, where the size of the stomach is reduced through various procedures, which has to be performed by a trained doctor who has expertise in this. This surgery has proven to be good as it is seen that surgery has caused significant weight loss in some, recovery from diabetes and reduces the cardio vascular problems. This surgery is usually performed on those people whose BMI is at least 40 or people with BMI 35 and are suffering from serious medical conditions. Various methods of bariatric surgery are: Adjustable Gastric Band is a procedure in which the size of the stomach is restricted using a silicone band, which can be adjusted by addition or removal of saline through a port placed under the skin. Intragastric balloon is a procedure which involves placing of a deflated balloon in the stomach, and then filling it up to decrease the amount of gastric space. This balloon is left in the stomach for a maximum of 6 months. Gastric Plication is the procedure in which a sleeve is created in the stomach by suturing rather than removing the stomach tissue. Gastric Bypass Surgery a small stomach pouch is created with a stapler and connected to the small intestine and the upper part of the small intestine is then reattached in the Y-shaped configuration. Bilio Pancreatic Diversion is a procedure in which the stomach is resected which creates a smaller stomach. The distal part of the small intestine is then connected to the pouch bypassing the duodenum and jejunum.

Medical science has always been a subject of interest for me. Combined with my passion for writing, I decided to spread the knowledge I acquired through my articles. I specifically focus on Weight lose treatments and services i.e

Media round-up: April Fools’ Day 2008

Tuesday, April 1, 2008

Many media outlets traditionally deliberately spread hoaxes on April Fools’ Day, including notable quality sources such as National Geographic and Science.

The popular British tabloid The Sun wrote that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to undergo stretch surgery to make him taller than his wife, Italian artist and model Carla Bruni. The report claimed the 5 foot 5 inch leader would be made 5 inches taller in one year using a method by Israeli professor Ura Schmuck. The Sun noted that during his visit to Britain last week, Sarkozy had high-heel shoes while his wife wore a pair of flat pumps.

The Guardian on the other hand ran an article that suggested that Carla would head an initiative by Prime Minister Gordon Brown to bring more glamour, good taste and sophistication to the U.K. general population. This would involve collaboration with Marks & Spencer for high-street fashion and Jamie Oliver for meals and wine.

BBC News had real-looking footage of flying penguins fronted by documentary host Terry Jones, which were actually an advertisement for its new iPlayer.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Stranger Chat Is More Fun Than You Think

By Saad Quader

Recently, Stranger Chat has become a buzzword. Everyone is keeping asking about it. Every now and then, one of my friend blurts out Hey! I got a girl from Brazil! So, I think the time is ripe for exploring it a little more.

Basically, a stranger is a person who you do not know, who lives outside your area, maybe talks another language. Yet, somehow you two meetby chance or by purpose. Meeting a person beyond barriers of familiarity, geography, language and culture is always a matter of excitement. Just think of how excited you would have been, as a child, when you met a guy who just came from a land which only existed in your geography book. Though you are not a child anymore, yet the excitement is still there.

So, how can we meet a stranger nowadays, apart from traveling? Stranger chat is one answer. Yes, there are apps that are specifically made to introduce two totally unknown persons. You do not even require any user name, and chat with the stranger complete anonymity, being a stranger yourself.

Each person is like a window: a window to his/her thoughts, culture, life, stories, dreams, happiness and sadness. The people around you are also a source of joy and comfort to you, but they lack the spice of being unknown. When you meet an unknown person, you must introduce yourself to him/her, and have a chance to discover that person. It feels great when you find that a guy from halfway across the world supports the same football club as you do, or has the same choice of movies as you have. Moreover, discovering the personquestion by questionis like rediscovering a character from a book or a movie: a character that only existed in your thoughts, but now you know he/she really exists.

Yet it becomes more remarkable when, all on a sudden, you will find that you are talking about things you never thought of sharing with anyone. Here comes the magic of unknowingness. You will find that you are becoming more honest about you, and will be more delighted when you will find a caring heart in your friend from Strangerland. Anonymity has its blessings.

Having that said, let us consider some stranger chat apps. There are donTalk, Omegle, Iddin, and GettingRandom. Omegle, the first Stranger Chat, is available in web site and iPhone. GettingRandom is available in Facebook. However, donTalk is available in web site, Facebook, iPhone, Android and BlackBerry. donTalk has taken its name from the famous Dio song “Don’t talk to strangers.”

donTalk, GettingRandom and Iddin let you specify if you prefer to talk to a boy or girl. If you do so, the app tries to find such a person. If no such person is available, it hooks you up with a random stranger. Similarly, you can specify if you prefer to talk to people from a specific country. donTalk opens up a Google Map, and you can either click on the place or search for a place. Apart from this, Iddin lets you share photos with the Stranger.

However, the biggest perk is the language feature. donTalk and GettingRandom automatically translates messages. For example, consider donTalk. Its no wonder that you may understand Chinese better than she does English. In that case, all you need to do is to select the language you understand: from that moment, you can write in Chinese (or any language you understand), and your messages will be translated to the other person in Russian (if she selects so). When she writes in Russian, you will receive in Chinese. Great, isn’t it? It is done with Google translation service.

Still thinking if it is worth a try? Go ahead and search google with dontalk, omegle, iddin or getting random, and feel yourself.

Wikinews interviews 2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor Candidate Wayne Tseng

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Thursday, October 22, 2020

2020 Melbourne Lord Mayor candidate Wayne Tseng answered some questions about his campaign for the upcoming election from Wikinews. The Lord Mayor election in the Australian city is scheduled to take place this week.

Tseng runs a firm called eTranslate, which helps software developers to make the software available to the users. In the candidate’s questionnaire, Tseng said eTranslate had led to him working with all three tiers of the government. He previously belonged to the Australian Liberal Party, but has left since then, to run for mayorship as an independent candidate.

Tseng is of Chinese descent, having moved to Australia with his parents from Vietnam. Graduated in Brisbane, Tseng received his PhD in Melbourne and has been living in the city, he told Wikinews. Tseng also formed Chinese Precinct Chamber of Commerce, an organisation responsible for many “community bond building initiatives”, the Lord Mayor candidate told Wikinews.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Tseng’s deputy Lord Mayor candidate Gricol Yang is a Commercial Banker and works for ANZ Banking Group.

Currently, Sally Capp is the Lord Mayor of Melbourne, the Victorian capital. Capp was elected as an interim Lord Mayor in mid-2018 after the former Lord Mayor Robert Doyle resigned from his position after sexual assault allegations. Doyle served as the Lord Mayor of Melbourne for almost a decade since 2008.

Wall collapse kills twelve in Chhattisgarh, India

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Twelve people have died and twenty more were wounded following the collapse of a wall in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. At the time of the collapse Tuesday, the wall was supporting a shed under which residents were seeking shelter from heavy rain.

“I have been told that a shed of my bungalow collapsed where daily wagers gather every day seeking work,” said police superintendent OP Pal. He is away from his house in Ambikapur, where the incident occurred, taking leave in Uttar Pradesh. Chhattisgarh authorities have promised Rs100 thousand (US$2.22 thousand,£1.39 thousand) to compensate each death, and Rs25 thousand (US$555.18,£346.92) for those injured.

The shed was used as a bus shelter. The victims had been hoping to travel out of town.

Ambikapur mayor Prabodh Minj said the 10-foot (3.05-metre)-tall outer wall &nbdash; built for security &nbdash; had been unmaintained for years. However, he attributes the cause of its collapse to the rainfall.

How Does Deep Tissue Massage Differ From A Standard Massage?

How Does Deep Tissue Massage Differ From A Standard Massage?

by

Penny Palmer

Almost every country has its own variety of massages and each of them have their own uses and needs. For example, Thai massages and Swedish massages are based on simple but useful principles that gently work out kinks in the body and in the muscles. Indian post-pregnancy massages are designed to redistribute body fat and improve muscle tone. These simple massages are generally limited to the superficial muscles of the body and they can have beneficial effects. However, there are massage techniques that have been formulated to have a treatment effect on the body like deep tissue massage.

How does deep tissue massage work? Deep tissue massages are a slightly different variety of massages that are generally used to stretch muscle fascia. They have a medical value and are not recommended as a general procedure. As the procedure works out deep muscles bundles and ligaments, it is particularly recommended for specific problems like osteoarthritis, muscle strains, fibromyalgia, back pain, repetitive strain injury etc. — The massage focuses on the connective tissue of the body and produces changes in the muscle tone and posture of the body. The massage procedure is designed to loosen up layers of connective tissue that cannot be located with conventional massage techniques. The technique also releases underlying fascial adhesions, chronic muscle contractions, muscle stresses and tensions. — Typically, it uses five to six specific strokes that are applied with knuckles elbows, forearms along with hands, ankles, feet etc to work out the muscle bundles that are located deep inside the body. The speed of the strokes is slower and is exerted with deeper pressure to ensure that the deeper muscle bundles are worked out. — Conventional massage techniques do not cause body aches but there is a chance that the deep tissue massage will cause muscle aches. However, a point to note is that pain thresholds vary from person to person. Most people find the process comfortable but gentle aches and pains are common. These sensations will subside with time. If you find the process uncomfortable, you have to tell the therapist and he will modify his strokes. Ice packs can also be used immediately after the massage to soothe and relax the area. Safety Disclaimer You might be perfectly healthy but it is advisable to consult with a medical professional before starting treatment. Deep tissue massages have many benefits but they can also cause a slight ache in deep seated muscles. This variety of massage is not recommended for pregnant women, osteoporosis patients, diabetics, patients with bleeding and clotting disorders etc. It is recommended that you get a complete medical evaluation and check-up done before starting with any variety of deep tissue massage.

How the Army Corps of Engineers closed one New Orleans breach

Friday, September 9, 2005

New Orleans, Louisiana —After Category 4 storm Hurricane Katrina slammed into New Orleans, on the night before August 29, 2005, several flood control constructions failed. Much of the city flooded through the openings. One of these was the flood wall forming one side of the 17th Street Canal, near Lake Pontchartrain. The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) is the primary agency for engineering support during such emergencies. A USACE team was assessing the situation in New Orleans on the 29th, water flow was stopped September 2nd, and the breach was closed on September 5th.

The Walk In Clinic’s Benefits And Drawbacks

For most people, our healthcare needs leave us with a conundrum of how exactly to proceed. On the one hand we feel crummy and do not want to wait a week or more to see our general care provider. On the other hand, our symptoms can hardly be described as urgent and we do not want to be a burden to the hospital emergency room or to spend the money on the visit to the ER. In addition to the unnecessary urgency and increased cost, it can be a seriously time consuming trip to spend three or more hours waiting to see someone for your sore throat simply because more immediate care is needed for other people. That leaves us stuck needing medical care but not knowing exactly what the best course of action is to receive it. Fortunately, there is a new option for those patients who need care quickly. It is called a walk in clinic and it is becoming more and more common in many different places all over the country. They are in the local drug store, as storefronts in shopping malls and even in some grocery stores. The need for care from something like a walk in clinic is lead by society’s demands for affordable and convenient healthcare. People need a care provider who is convenient and accessible or else they do not go at all. Basically a walk in clinic is a place that is used to treat minor and common problems. Usually they are not staffed by doctors, but by a certified nurse practitioner who can assess a patient’s well being and prescribe medication if necessary. They treat things like minor infections of the sinus, respiratory tract or bladder. They can diagnose things like strep throat or sprained wrists and they can even deal with chronic conditions like eczema or gout. For some, these places offer a quick and affordable source for booster shots and vaccinations. While these clinics offer great sources for simple medical treatments, they are not a substitute for regular visits to physicians. Additionally, anyone who goes to visit one of these convenient spots should also follow up and inform their doctor of any treatment they have had prior or any medication they may have prescribed. While a walk in clinic may be great for minor ailments, they are not always the best choice for all issues. They do not offer much in the way of follow up care or treatment of chronic conditions. When you go to visit, chances are you will be seen by a nurse practitioner or physician’s assistant and almost definitely not by a doctor. This means that sometimes lingering problems are missed and chronic ailments go undiagnosed. Also, because the staff is frequently rotated, it is not likely a person will be recognized or speak with someone who had previously treated them. This puts the satisfaction rating for most people very low and makes it particularly hard for some to feel comfortable divulging personal information to a total stranger every time they come in.
